National Missing Persons Week 2007: Mental illness

National Missing Persons Week 2007 (5 to 11 August) focused on the link between those suffering from a mental illness and those who go missing. The tagline was ‘How do you find someone, when they struggle to find themselves'.

Out of the 35,000 people reported missing each year, a high percentage suffer from a mental illness such as depression, schizophrenia and anxiety (refer to the Mental health and missing persons fact sheet).

The national advertising campaign included television and outdoor advertising as well as the distribution of 100,000 Avant postcards.
