National Missing Persons Week 2008: Young people

National Missing Persons Week is being held from 3 to 9 August and aims to raise awareness about the significant number of young Australians reported missing. Out of the estimated 35,000 people who are reported missing each year, approximately 20,000 are under the age of 18.

While the reasons for going missing are many and varied, communication plays a vital role in preventing young people from going missing and may also assist in their location. As such the campaign message for National Missing Persons Week 2008 is: “When communication goes missing, so does our youth. Don’t close the door to communication”.

A national advertising campaign supports National Missing Persons Week and includes:
Outdoor advertising on buses and trams
Radio advertising and community service announcements through the MCM Network (Take 40 Australia, The Hot Hits, Planet Rock, The Jonathan Coleman Experience, My Generation, Cover to Cover, American Top 40).

Online advertisements on Ninemsn Dolly, Bebo, Facebook, Moshtix, Musicfic, Ninemsn hotmail, Ninemsn messenger and MySpace.
Lost & Found: MyGeneration Sunday 3 August.

Two hour program hosted by Jonathan Coleman dedicated to National Missing Persons Week featuring interviews and all songs ‘missing’.
