Practical matters

While an investigation is carried out, there are several things that may need to be taken care of on behalf of the missing person. The following may be useful to the families and friends of a missing person.
 

Inform the necessary people

  • The missing person’s employer, school, club or business associates should be notified. 
  • Any social engagements, business appointments or travel plans the missing person may have had scheduled should be cancelled.
  • Anyone with information that would be of assistance to the investigation, should always be advised to contact the police. 
 

Personal property

  • Where the missing person lives alone, it may be arrange for someone to collect their mail and attend to the upkeep of their property, and take care of their pets if they have any. 
 

Finances

  • Payment of the missing person’s mortgage, rent, bills or other financial obligations should be arranged for the interim period. 
  • Police and tracing agencies may use the missing person’s bank account to monitor activity.  If anything is noticed as unusual, the police should be contacted.
