How to find your way around this website

This website is designed to help you find information quickly, and present you with links to other relevant information.

You may wish to use one or more of the following to help guide you through the website:

• the horizontal menu across the top of the page which lists this site’s subject areas
• the menu on the left-hand side of every page, which expands to reveal sub-pages
• the search box near the top right of each page
• the site map in the footer of each page
• the ‘breadcrumb’ trail (e.g. Home > Who is missing?) near the top of each content page. The breadcrumb trail provides links back to the parent pages of the current information.

Site search tips

The National Missing Persons Coordination Centre website lists many profiles of long term missing persons. If you would like to use the general site search to search for a specifying missing person or persons who match a specific description consider these tips.

• The search tool on this site will search for entered words across all pages on the site.
• Avoid using common terms like the word ‘missing’ which will appear on most pages.

Names

• If you are searching for a specific name consider multiple searches using variations of spelling and/or similar names (Ann, Anne, Anna, Annie).
• Instead of searching a person’s first and last names, use only one name (surname or given name) in the search field. Our search will only return items that match all included words.
• Google has more powerful search tools (wildcards etc.) consider using google search and limiting results to the missing persons site using “site:missingpersons.gov.au”

Physical descriptions

If you are looking for missing persons cases which match a specific description, consider using some of the following common terms to find all profiles which match certain physical features.

• Build: Thin, Slim, Lanky, Proportionate, Medium, Solid
• Height is supplied in centimetres so search will only return exact results.
• Hair colour and characteristics: Blonde/Blond, Ginger, Red, Auburn, Brown, Black, Grey, White, Bald, Shaven
• Eye colours: Blue, Grey, Green, Hazel, Brown

Printing

This website does not use print icons to take you to a printable version of the page. Instead, a print version of the page is automatically applied when you follow your usual print sequence. This prints the page in a conventional portrait format without the navigation menus.
